PatriotismWe assemble care packages for deployed military personnel and donate requested comfort items for returning military. Members volunteer at our local Veterans Administration hospitals (VA Palo Alto / VA Menlo Park) and at specific events hosted by Fisher House and the VA. We host an annual Christmas Craft Fair for in-patient veterans and fund both outpatient and in-patient events requested by staff at our local VA’s. We also support Honor Flight which serves veterans in the Bay Area by hosting trips to Washington DC to visit the veterans’ memorials and we hosted a Commemorative Partner ceremony for seventy Vietnam Veterans. Many of our Service in Seconds projects directly benefit our local veterans. |

EducationWe support Constitution Week in our community by engaging with the city council, local senior groups and children’s libraries. Our American History essay contest participants are from local middle schools. Each February we invite the winners and their parents to an awards ceremony. Several of our chapter winners have gone on to win at the District and State levels. Every year we present scholarships to a graduating senior from one of our local high schools and a local college ROTC member. We support our DAR libraries with requested book donations. Our members are kept up to date on conservation tips, participate in conservation projects and learn about restoration efforts and building future resilience after major fires. |

Historic PreservationAfter a lot of researching and knocking on doors, one of our member’s family located their family’s burial plot which included the grave of one of their patriots, Joseph Penn. Almost two years after Joseph Penn’s grave was located, a grave marker dedication to honor their Revolutionary War Patriot and his wife was held and included a traditional DAR dedication ceremony and a military tribute by SAR (Son of the American Revolution). We also donate to both national and state historic preservation projects. Our newsletter has several on-going information preservation projects, including honoring our chapter’s patriots and the women who inspire us. |
